Kumaon and Garhwal — sacred Himalayan land of ancient temples, dense oak forests, and glacial rivers cold enough to numb your hands. Beekeepers still follow their bees on foot through blooming Buransh forests for wild multifloral honey, while mountain households press ghee from Badri cows grazing meadows above 3,000 metres — the same slow, patient methods passed down through generations of hill families. Each spring, farmers walk behind pairs of oxen to open the stone walled terraces, sowing mandua, jhangora and pahadi rajma the way their grandfathers did, between orchards in bloom and snow peaks that never quite leave the sky.
